Chlorinated solvents, resiliency webinars on deck this spring

NAPA Webinars are back in season, and asphalt pavement professionals don’t have to wait for spring to register ahead of time for virtual education sessions on topics ranging from regulatory to resiliency.

On March 26, NAPA Vice President for Environment, Health, & Safety Howard Marks will lead a discussion on navigating compliance when it comes to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidance on chlorinated solvents.

Chlorinated Solvents Compliance: Understanding Obligations attendees will learn from industry experts about the requirements for companies using chlorinated solvents to extract asphalt binder.

Derek Drechsel, Principal Scientist at Roux Inc. and the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association’s Kevin Burke will explain the occupational monitoring, chemical control, and recordkeeping requirements the asphalt mix industry must comply with one year after the EPA’s rules were finalized.

On April 20, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Imad L. Al-Qadi will examine the relationship between smoothness, resilience, and life-cycle assessments in flexible pavements.

Smooth Flexible Pavements for Resiliency and Use Stage Emission and Cost Savings will explain how smooth pavements are integral for achieving both economic and environmental benefits.

Attendees will gain an overview of the pavement use stage and the factors contributing to associated costs and emissions. Participants can also expect to come away with a better understanding of cost savings and emission reductions related to pavement roughness progression.
