‘Watch For Us’ this paving season
Each April, NAPA members join with the rest of the road construction industry in marking National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) with messaging aimed at encouraging safe driving behaviors when motorists approach and pass by work zones.
As the weather warms across the country, more and more crews will begin work on road projects, some with schedules that mean paving at night, traffic pattern changes, or other considerations that can interrupt your commute.
Be vigilant and Watch For Us by keeping these three things in mind:
Stay Alert
- When you approach a work zone, expect the unexpected. Watch for roadway workers and equipment.
- Minimize distractions! Avoid phone usage and keep your hands on the wheel.
- Pay attention to all warning and construction signs. Merge only when safe and always obey the guidance of flaggers when they are present.
Slow Down
- Respect posted speed limits and be prepared to reduce speed in and around work zones.
- Keep a safe distance between cars to avoid rear-end collisions.
Be Patient
- Expect delays and plan accordingly. Search for alternate routes if possible.
- Remember to stay calm. Roadway crews are working hard to improve the roads for everyone and they want to get home safe just as much as you do.
