NAPA, construction industry mark Construction Suicide Prevention Week

Next week, Sept. 14-18, is Construction Suicide Prevention Week (CSPW), an annual effort to raise awareness about the unique mental health challenges facing construction workers and the steps the industry can take to help prevent suicide.
Held each September during National Suicide Prevention Month, CSPW brings the industry together to raise awareness, share resources, and help ensure workers know where to turn for support.
“This is an initiative thar was started by the construction industry for the construction industry because we want to know that every worker in the country has the tools to work and live a safe and healthy life,” said Kara McCaffrey, CSPW Chair. “It’s just as important to protect someone’s mental health as it is their physical safety.”
This year’s theme, “Building on Progress,” highlights the steps the construction industry has already taken to address suicide prevention, pointing to data showing declining suicide rates as an encouraging sign of progress, while emphasizing the need to continue that work.
As part of this year’s campaign, participants are encouraged to make a simple pledge: “I pledge to learn at least one new way to seek help for someone in need.”
Mental health remains a serious issue across the construction industry, and NAPA is committed to being part of the solution. That means supporting greater awareness, encouraging open conversations, and connecting workers and teams with resources that can help them prioritize mental health and seek support when needed.
