NAPA to host pair of free webinars on decarbonization in May

NAPA Vice President for Research, Engineering, and Technology Richard Willis and Sustainable Pavements Director Joseph Shacat will lead two online discussions on decarbonization in May. Both webinars aim to illustrate the research and takeaways within NAPA’s recently released report, The Carbon Footprint of Asphalt Pavements: A Reference Document for Decarbonization.

The first webinar in the Conversations on Decarbonization series is titled The Carbon Footprint of an Asphalt Pavement, and is set for May 1 at 2 p.m. ET. This session will explore the results from NAPA’s 2022 research into the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of asphalt mix production by examining the sources of emissions throughout the life of an asphalt pavement.

Attendees will learn which components within mix design have the greatest impact on the carbon footprint of the asphalt mix, as well as the contributions of certain activities during use and end of life.

In Part 2 of the series, Willis and Shacat will explore how engineers can use GHG emissions knowledge to determine the most critical and effective solutions for decarbonization.

Those who attend Asphalt Pavement Opportunities on May 23 at 2 p.m. ET will come away understanding the opportunities for industry and agencies to reduce GHG emissions throughout the life cycle of asphalt pavements.

Along with identifying effective decarbonization strategies, attendees will also learn to leverage tools like the supply curve to prioritize emissions reduction efforts.

The Carbon Footprint of Asphalt Pavements: A Reference Document for Decarbonization is a reference document for decarbonizing asphalt pavements.

The report provides a comprehensive roadmap for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with asphalt pavements.
