CPI’s Sunbelt hosts Rep. Collins for tour of plant, job site
U.S. Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) visited Construction Partners Inc.’s Auburn, Georgia asphalt plant and also stopped by a roadside job site as part of a tour of the Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces, Inc. facilities.
NAPA staff were on hand to support CPI during the congressional visit, which brought a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure to the company’s newest asphalt mix plant. Sunbelt joined CPI’s Georgia-focused Scruggs Company as a branded division this spring, adding the mix plant Rep. Collins visited to CPI’s holdings as well as a greenfield plant in Commerce that is expected to be activated this summer.
“Through NAPA, we were presented an opportunity to show off our north Georgia operation, Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces,” said CPI Senior Vice President for Legal Ryan Brooks. “We provided our elected officials with a tour of our hot-mix asphalt plant and lab in Auburn, Georgia and visited an active work zone, which was a uniquely hands-on experience and gave us a chance to highlight critical issues impacting our company and industry. Keeping our elected officials close and educated on our product is vital to our business’s growth and sustainability.”
Collins, who holds additional roles on the Committee on Natural Resources and Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, also visited Sunbelt crew members in a roadside work zone. Speaking while traffic passed by the working paving crews, the Congressman noted how distracted driving added even more danger for workers.
“It’s very dangerous. Last year alone, there were over 42,000 crashes at workplaces across the United States; over 1000 deaths,” said Collins, who had a career in trucking before running for office. “So, if you’ve come up on a site like this, do us a favor: Slow down, focus, and pay attention, because we’d love to get these folks back home safely just like you want to.”
