NAPA Participates in Family Business Caucus Event on Hill
On September 18 at the Longworth House Office Building, David White, President of NAPA member Superior Paving Corp., joined a panel speaking on tax implications for family businesses organized by Family Enterprise USA’s Congressional Family Business Caucus. The panel represented a variety of family-owned businesses, from the owners of photo-sharing website Flickr to the family that created Ping golf clubs. The panel was attended by Rep. John Duarte (R-CA), who spoke on the implications of federal tax policy on family-owned businesses.
White is a second-generation owner of Superior Paving Corp., which was founded in 1976 by his father Ron along with Bob Surface and Bart Mitchell. He described the generational value that paving companies deliver to communities: “That cul-de-sac we’ll pave will be where someone buys their first house and has their first child. That child will learn to ride a bike on our asphalt.” He also shared a striking fact about asphalt mix producers: among NAPA Producer member companies, 96% of them are family owned. Sensible tax policy helps to keep them family owned, allowing generations to pass down the family business without penalty.
