Emissions minimizing innovations earn Tilcon’s New Britain Plant the NAPA Environmental Leadership Award.

Signage on the silos at the Tilcon Connecticut, A CRH Company, New Britain plant proudly announce the facility’s top priorities: SAFETY, QUALITY, INTEGRITY.

But these aren’t just words for the New Britain plant, which has a system to run mix at lower temperatures – a way to reduce emissions. Dust in the baghouse, where the company installed a new catwalk, is monitored with sensors and inspected annually. The mix plant includes a blue smoke system to capture any odors. The facility is also equipped to run reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) at a higher percentage.

The plant is pursuing its aim to “reinvent the way of the world” one sustainable step at a time, which is how it came to be named the winner of the 2023 Operational Excellence Award for Environmental Leadership.
