BMD Working Group to share one-year update on June 4
Engineers and academics alike will provide a one-year update from the Balanced Mix Design Implementation Working Group (BMD IWG) on June 4, sharing the key accomplishments, insights, and next steps in advancing BMD.
BMD IWG: One-Year Update will feature presenters like Amy Epps Martin & Florence Wiley with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, Dave Vanderweele with NAPA member Rieth-Riley, Fan Yin with the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University, and pavement and materials engineer Derek Nener-Plante.
Established to facilitate collaboration among NAPA members, agencies, and academia to address both technical and managerial challenges associated with BMD, the Working Group will highlight three major deliverables:
- Balanced Mix Design Guidance – A practical tool outlining the engineering, economic, and environmental impacts of different BMD strategies, helping contractors make informed decisions.
- Why Reimagine Balanced Mix Design? – A forward-thinking exploration of the evolution of BMD, advocating for a reimagined framework beyond current approaches.
- Aging Matters – A short paper on the critical role of long-term aging in pavement performance.
This session will provide valuable insights for industry professionals, agency representatives, and researchers looking to stay informed on BMD implementation progress and future directions.
