Technology discussions emerge at Midyear

NAPA Midyear attendees discussed artificial intelligence, technology, and implementation during programming this week in Columbus.
OpenAsphalt API: Building the Industry’s Data Standard explored lessons learned from other construction materials and Europe to reduce data duplication while increasing the usefulness of the data.
Panelists in the first workshop of the event shared how a new data standard can allow for a shared rulebook across systems that can streamline quality reporting. Pavewise CEO Bryce Wuori explained how transfer of data is a common bottleneck for quality assurance/quality control testing. With innovations that allow for complete traceability, including GPS-tagged cores, companies can create digital paving journals that allow for quick and clear communication of data.

Flipping the Script: Real Conversations About Technology Adoption in Asphalt brought industry leaders on stage to talk about how they are implementing new technologies into their operations.
During the session, XBE Chief Commercial Officer Grant Wollenhaupt asked the panel what the difference in five years will be between companies that adopt new technologies like AI and those that do not.
“I don’t know how you maintain relevancy without this technology,” said Jeremy Ramberg, vice president at Lehman-Roberts, a Granite Co. “You don’t have to be on the bleeding edge, but you need to be on the bandwagon.”
Attendees finished Wednesday at an off-site reception held at Pins Mechanical with duckpin bowling, arcade games, and signature cocktails.
