118th Congress Releases 2nd Session Calendar
House of Representatives will be in session 28 weeks this year; 29 for Senate.
The U.S. House of Representatives will be in session 28 weeks out of the year in 2024, with a break for election season scheduled from Sept. 27 until after Veterans Day, according to the schedule released last fall.
Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La) released the schedule, which is subject to change, with planned breaks set for President’s Day, Easter, Passover, and during the summer’s political party conventions ahead of Election Day on Nov. 5.
After Jan. 19, members of the 118th Congress will return to their home districts for the first recess of the year and are slated to return to Capitol Hill on Jan. 29.
Senators will convene Jan. 8, but are not expected to go home until a recess in mid-February, after a major Feb. 2 deadline in the government’s stopgap funding efforts. The Senate will also not convene in October, to allow for campaigning ahead of the election.
When reaching out to your congressional representatives about job site or plant tours, consider checking the Congressional Calendar to approximate their availability.
