OSHA finally publishes proposed heat standard

As originally reported by NAPA in July, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration’s (OSHA) ‘formal’ proposed heat standard was finally published in the Federal Register on Aug. 30, initiating their 120-day comment period, which ends Dec. 30.

The rule has not changed since it was announced on July 2 (accessible here).

NAPA Health & Safety Committee Vice Chair Coral Todd with Duval Asphalt said NAPA’s current resource meets many of the requirements of the proposed rule from OSHA.

“We see this as an opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of our program and highlight what we’ve implemented as an appropriate alternative to the specific shade requirements in the proposed rule,” Todd said.

Due to OSHA’s ongoing focus on protecting workers from heat illness, and prior to any finalized Heat Standard, we encourage each company to review NAPA’s guidance and ensure they have a heat illness prevention program.
