How does the BUILD America 250 Act improve work zone safety for roadbuilders and drivers?
A new NAPA resource details how the BUILD America 250 Act would be the most important work zone safety bill to become law in many years.
NAPA’s new Work Zone Safety overview breaks down how the bipartisan surface transportation reauthorization legislation would make roads safer for both motorists and the men and women working to build and maintain them. The stakes are significant: approximately 113,000 work zone crashes occurred in 2024, resulting in 850 deaths, including 122 roadway workers, according to the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse.
Work zone safety has long been a top NAPA priority, and the BUILD America 250 Act includes several policies the association has championed. The bill would expand eligibility for proven safety measures such as positive protective barriers that separates road users from workers in construction zones; support work zone safety education for drivers, establish a federal Roadway Worker Protection Interagency Working Group to address roadway worker protection, and improve federal data collection and research on work zone incidents.
