NAPA Awards program recognizes excellence

The NAPA Awards program recognizes the best in the asphalt pavement industry, whether its paving projects, safety innovations, or giving back to the community.

Apply for Quality in Construction & Operational Excellence awards through Oct. 15.

NAPA’s Quality in Construction (QIC) Awards identify road projects across the nation that meet and exceed standards for performance, from state road overlays to full-scale interstate paving.

Dozens, even hundreds, of QIC projects are recognized annually through NAPA Awards, but the highest rated road projects can qualify for other prestigious awards, like the Larry H. Lemon Award.

The top ten projects using less than 50,000 tons of asphalt mix are recognized as Larry H. Lemon winners, while the highest rated projects using more than 50,000 tons become finalists for the Sheldon G. Hayes Award.

Lindy Paving was announced as the 2024 Sheldon G. Hayes winner in February for its work on Interstate 90 in Pennsylvania.

NAPA also recognizes the best airfield paving projects in the country through the Ray Brown Airport Award.

Operational Excellence awards focus on other aspects of the industry, including community service and sustainability. Companies compete for the Environmental Leadership Award, as well as the Community Involvement Award, by submitting applications denoting their programs, employee involvement, and how their work impacts the surrounding area.

The Asphalt Operations Safety Innovations Award identifies new products or practices that enhance safety for workers at the plant or on the job site.

NAPA also recognizes individuals through the Ronald Kenyon Award for Research and Education, as well as the Asphalt Pavement Hall of Fame.

The Asphalt Pavement Hall of Fame recognizes and honors individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the asphalt pavement industry, leading to innovations in the production and placement of asphalt pavement, in the usage of asphalt as a paving material, and in the general advancement and recognition of the industry. Nominations are accepted year-round.

The Ronald D. Kenyon Award for Research and Education recognizes outstanding contributions to research and education surrounding asphalt pavement technology; environmental, health, and safety; and asphalt pavement sustainability. The Kenyon Award honors those deserving individuals whose work and leadership have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the asphalt pavement industry. Nominations are accepted year-round.
