Asphalt again leads America’s recycling effort

NAPA members once again demonstrated that sustainability is core to how the asphalt pavement industry operates.

Results from the 2024 Recycled Materials and Warm Mix Usage Asphalt Industry Survey show producers reused more than 101 million tons of reclaimed asphalt pavement that year, returning over 99 percent of old asphalt to productive use; keeping asphalt America’s most recycled material.

RAP use delivered real value, conserving 5.1 million tons of asphalt binder, replacing 96 million tons of virgin aggregate, and generating an estimated $4.7 billion in material cost savings for road owners.

The survey also shows asphalt utilizing warm mix technologies accounted for 40 percent of all asphalt produced in 2024 leading to reduced energy use during production.
